RoHS and WEEE

The Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) Directive, issued by the European Union (EU), was introduced in July 2006. Hitachi began offering RoHS-compliant products more than a year before the directive came into force.

Another EU initiative, the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Directive, is designed to minimize the amount of electrical and electronic equipment dumped into landfills. WEEE requires that certain end-user products are marked to show they are covered by this legislation. In EU countries, we began labelling all generic hard drive products with the WEEE symbol (a dustbin logo) in January 2006.

We encourage people to dispose of products in accordance with local laws and advise against disassembling our products.
