We are striving to make all our disk drives as power-efficient as possible. And we're getting there – the Deskstar P7K500 is currently the world's most energy-efficient desktop hard drive. It offers up to 40% lower idle power than the previous generation, and it's up to 59% lower than our competitors' drives.

If all desktop PCs sold in 2008 could match this performance, it would result in US$50M in power savings per year, and a CO2 reduction equal to 68,000 fewer cars on the highways per year.

Hitachi Voltage Efficiency Regulator Technology (HiVERT™), developed by Hitachi GST, brings unprecedented levels of power efficiency for 2.5-inch (and some 3.5-inch) hard disk drives – which is not only practical but eco-friendly too. Working in conjunction with other power management mechanisms, HiVERT reduces the power draw of key hard drive electrical components by 30% over the previous generation.
