Drive considerations

Hitachi GST offers a range of hard drives that address the unique demands for both the recording and playback of audio/video content in the home – from SmoothStream™ technology and bedroom-quiet acoustics, through to drives optimised for PVR applications with vast storage capabilities. And to address the wide variety of needs from manufacturers’ design teams they are available in multi-form factors:

  • The CinemaStar 7K1000 is the world's first consumer-focused 1TB drive. This is enough to store more than 250,000 MP3s, 1000 hours of standard definition video or 250 hours of high-definition video.
  • The 3.5-inch CinemaStar P7K500 offers capacities of up to 500GB and provides industry-best power utilization and performance.
  • The more compact 2.5-inch CinemaStar C5K250 is designed to meet the demands of manufacturers who wish to offer video recording and playback features in small form factor.
  • Hitachi's second generation CinemaStar drives all feature SmoothStream™ technology that delivers an integrated set of features and functions that enable them to perform optimally in AV applications. And, because the number of possible applications is widening all the time, the CinemaStar P7K500 drives are available as either Parallel ATA (ATA) or Serial ATA (SATA) for maximum design flexibility.

The CinemaStar range of drives is available in 250GB, 320GB, 400GB, 500GB and 1TB capacities for 3.5-inch and 80GB, 120GB, 160GB and 250GB for 2.5-inch CinemaStar C5K250.
